I liked the sample and decided to try a new author for me even though the price was high. I was hoping for a Cherise Sinclair or Sierra Cartwright story. The book lost momentum in the middle where the author seemed to be reaching for suspense with the arrest of the hero. This part fell flat and was not developed. The angst between the characters was not developed enough either. For the money I'll wait for one of the other's books.Product details

Edge of Need is a fantastic read and quite an entry in the Body Masters series. Author Sara Brookes nailed it on this one. Great characters, fantastic storyline and (oh yeah!) great sex scenes. She is easily one of my favorite BDSM authors. Probable because it isn’t all about the sex. There’s a less than perfect human side that keeps me coming back for more. Dungeon Monitor
Let’s start with McDreamy Adam! He has his issues with his family but it doesn’t make him any less a loving person. The way he cares for Sutton and his friends pushes him right up to the top of my book boyfriends. Strong yet caring, observant but not stalkerish. *SIGH* Okay he is a Dungeon Monitor and he does have to be observant but the way he handles Sutton …where can I get my own Adam! Sutton is pretty spectacular as well. Not a mousy sub but a strong woman. When you put the two together…SIZZLE! We of course can’t have smooth sailing outside of the bedroom, but in it…OH YEAH BABY. Now they do have a few things to work out with a little push from some close and personal friends we’ve met before at the club in previous titles. I do so love when characters in previous books make repeat appearances. It makes the series so much more delightful for me. There is one friend that I hope gets his on story; Ben. Since Dalton has his it would only be fair if Ben did.
This third entry in the Body Masters series can completely be read as a stand-alone. There are repeat characters from the the first books but at no time is anything about them given away in Edge of Need. However, why would you want just a taste of a great series when you can enjoy all of it. I loved Edge of Need and so will anyone who reads it.

Sutton is a small town girl who has made her way to the bright lights of Broadway and a dancer and performer. After sustaining an injury, she was forced to halt her dancing to rehabilitate. She flees NYC to hide out in Atlanta while recuperating. From a BDSM standpoint, she has always identified as a submissive. While in New York, she was a member of a local club where she could connect and often have short term exchanges but never be tied down.
The hunky Adam is a veteran turned business owner. He was to continue to help people much like he did during his military service so he has opened a rehabilitation center. He is also a Dominant and dungeon monitor at the local club.
For me, this is very much two stories. From a plot perspective, I liked it but didn’t love it. There was a steady storyline but it felt like there could have been so much more. Throughout, I was waiting for something to happen and just when I think I found that thing it quickly fizzles into the background. Sutton was in a constant internal fight of could she ever leave the stage when it’s been in her life for such a long time. Will she ever allow herself to have a relationship like her parents but not see it as losing something else? There are several secondary characters which help create more depth to Sutton and more so Adam.
From a BDSM standpoint, it’s a solid read. There are great and imaginative scenes. Possibly more importantly, I appreciated the positive and responsible view into the lifestyle. The use of dungeon monitors and a focus on educational demos is refreshing to read about as it’s seems too often be glossed over. I think these scenes are where we see a love and need of exhibitionism as well as other fetishes for Adam and Sutton but it is also where they create a foundation of trust to enable them to be more open to a relationship. Without giving too much of the story away, there are implications of legal issues relative to BDSM and found importance in how some people are unfairly targeted for their kinks.
Overall, I enjoyed reading this one. While I wanted a bit more from the story, I realize this is a series so perhaps it’ll be addressed in future installments. I found at the core the relationship to be endearing and principally realistic but sweet at its very basis.
